210 Days

Yup, you’ve guessed it! It’s been 210 days since my last post. I wish I could say I had a good excuse for my disappearance, but I don’t; and I won’t sit here, inventing a clever reason for my absence. A reason we both know would teeter that line between truth and fiction and only serve to insult your intelligence, waste your time, and sever any of the blogger/reader rapport that may still exist between us.

What I will do, is tell you the truth; that my absence these last six-or-so months, while not explicitly purposeful, was not unavoidable. It was an absence that stemmed from multiple, significant life changes and an inability on my part to juggle those changes without allowing some of my engagements to fall to the wayside.

In lay(wo)man’s terms, I was underprepared and overwhelmed.

While I won’t bore you with all the unforeseen emotional, financial, and physical consequences of these changes, I will share a little of what has happened in the last half-year.

Starting in June of this year, I quit my job, sold my condo, purchased a house, moved cities, and started my first term as a graduate student and a new position as a graduate teaching assistant at the largest university in the US. Full disclosure, with so much change in such a short amount of time, it’s been a struggle to just get out of bed some days, let alone find the energy and creativity to compose a blog post. I mean, I moved five months ago, and I still haven’t finished unpacking for fuck’s sake.

That’s not to say I haven’t gained valuable benefits from these changes. My journey, in every sense of the word, these past 210 days, has produced unimaginable learning and growing experiences, many of which, I expect, will inspire various future blog posts.

Nonetheless, my overall ability to manage my time and energy in a way that allowed me to continue my commitment to this blog has been unsuccessful, to say the least. An issue I aim to remedy going forward.

So, here I am, fingers to the keyboard, working to resume building my little corner of the interwebz. For those of you reading this, thank you for taking another chance on me and my blog. I know your time is valuable, and I am grateful that you choose to share a little with me through your continued reading.

Until next time,

  1. Hi Kelli,

Life has many challenges good, bad or indifferent. You have taken this latest challenge (or new chapter in life) and found out new things about yourself. I am glad you were able to learn and grow as an individual and couple.
Be happy with whatever you do because you never know what life has in store for your next chapter.
